Constructing a building according to the principles of the ‘Passivehaus’ Institute in Germany is the core principle of a passive house build. This system certifies that the homes must qualify through its stringent quality assurance process.

This principle states that heat losses of any such building is expected to be cut to such a degree that it hardly needs any heating at all. Passive heat from the sun, the occupants, household appliances and the heat from the extract air principally cover the heating demand. The cost of the remaining heating is negligible because only 10 watts of heat per square meter of living space is needed.
